I have been getting into keto recipes recently - low (or no) carbohydrates seems to agree with me.

Not only is a ketogenic diet great for the waistline, it has proven to be hugely beneficial for brain health and function.

This keto granola has 3g of net carbs per serving and is full of healthy fats.

Eating nuts offers a variety of health benefits due to their rich nutritional profile.

1. Rich in Healthy Fats

  • Most nuts contain monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats, which support heart health.

  • They help lower bad cholesterol (LDL) and increase good cholesterol (HDL).

2. High in Protein

  • Nuts are a great plant-based protein source, making them ideal for vegetarians and vegans.

  • Almonds, peanuts, and pistachios are particularly high in protein.

3. Packed with Essential Vitamins & Minerals

  • Vitamin E: Acts as an antioxidant and supports skin and immune health (found in almonds and hazelnuts).

  • Magnesium: Important for muscle function, nerve health, and bone strength (found in cashews and Brazil nuts).

  • Selenium: Supports thyroid function and immunity (Brazil nuts are one of the best sources).

4. Good for Heart Health

  • Regular consumption of nuts is linked to a reduced risk of heart disease.

  • Walnuts, in particular, are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which help reduce inflammation.

5. Aids in Weight Management

  • Despite being calorie-dense, nuts promote satiety, helping control hunger and prevent overeating.

  • The combination of fiber, protein, and healthy fats keeps you full longer.

6. Supports Brain Health

  • Nuts like walnuts contain antioxidants and omega-3s, which are linked to improved memory and cognitive function.

  • Some studies suggest regular nut consumption may reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s.

7. Good for Gut Health

  • Nuts contain dietary fiber, which supports digestion and promotes healthy gut bacteria.

8. Helps Regulate Blood Sugar

  • Nuts have a low glycemic index and help stabilize blood sugar levels, making them beneficial for people with diabetes.

  • Almonds and walnuts are especially good choices for blood sugar control.
